Why Tomurcuk over Paired or Candle? 6 reasons for Turkish-speaking couples

· 4 min read

Paired and Candle are two of the couples apps that have stood out in recent years, and credit where it's due: both are well made. Neither comes in Turkish, though. Candle is English only, and Paired is in English, French and German. For a Turkish-speaking couple, that means answering the most personal questions in your relationship in someone else's language.

We make Tomurcuk, so we're biased. Even so, every fact below is on each app's own store listing and website (October 2026).

1. The questions were written in Turkish

All 984 questions were written in Turkish; none of them were translated in. Topics from life in Turkey are part of them, like bayram, family dinners, military service and living far from home. Here's one: "What did you do with your bayram money: save it, or spend it straight away?" A question like that doesn't come out of a list translated from English.

2. It works when one of you speaks Turkish and the other English

Each partner uses the app in their own language. Every question also has an English version, so the same question can land in Turkish for one of you and in English for the other. For Turks living abroad and bilingual couples, that's a big deal.

3. One question, every evening, at the same time

Tomurcuk doesn't try to keep you busy all day. One question lands every evening at a time you both chose, and the answers stay sealed. Nobody gets to read first and tweak their answer; both open at the same moment, which tends to make the answers more honest. It's a small part of the evening that belongs to the two of you.

4. It was built for long distance

The idea came out of a long-distance relationship between Leuven and Ankara. The question lands for you both at the same moment, and you pick the time together, with twelve cities and seven time slots to choose from across time zones. On iPhone, the widget puts your partner's local time on your home screen, and the distance between you if you both allow it.

5. Sky and Nest

Sky is couple astrology based on both your birth details: the day's spark, match cards and your two charts. Part of it is free, and all of it comes with Premium. Nest is a tomurcuk the two of you look after together. Each day you both answer, you earn embers to feed it and change its scene, and Nest is completely free. Neither Paired's nor Candle's store page mentions anything like these.

6. The daily question is always free

Tomurcuk is free to download and the daily question will stay free; it's written into our user agreement. Sealed answers, couple chat, most of the tests, Nest and the widgets are free too. For more, there's Tomurcuk Premium, and one subscription covers you both.

One more thing

Tomurcuk is made in Ankara by Deer Studios. You can write to support in Turkish or English, and our privacy policy comes with Turkey's KVKK notice. Only the two of you see your answers and messages; they aren't used for ads, sold or sent to an AI.

Which app is for whom?

If you're comfortable in English and want expert-guided programs, Paired is a good choice; if you want photos and mini games during the day, Candle is too. If your relationship happens in Turkish, Tomurcuk was made for you. The details are on the What is Tomurcuk App page.
